Why did you choose Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾?

I fell in love with the campus and staff when I toured Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ during my senior year of high school. I knew right away that I could make Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ feel like a second home and that there would be a lot of support and kindness from faculty and staff. The class sizes at Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ also helped to reel me in. I loved the idea that I could enter my class, and the teacher would greet me by my name, rather than just being a nameless. 

I am very close with my family and am a homebody, so the idea that I could commute to school for classes was very appealing to me. Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ was also inexpensive and is so generous with the financial aid, scholarships and grants they offer their students. Plus, who doesn’t love Lake Fred?

How did you choose your major?

I love books and love sharing my love for books with others, so I decided to become a Literature major since I’d be able to do the two things I love the most: read and write. It took me a few months to realize that I wanted to be an English teacher. Looking back now, I have no idea how I didn’t realize this sooner. I was the type of kid who begged my teachers for extra worksheets so I could go home and pretend to play school. Becoming an English teacher was like the best of both worlds for me: I could share my love for books and become one of the teachers that I always looked up to. I was very fortunate to be at Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ when I came to this decision since Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ is known for having one of the best Education programs in New Jersey.

What opportunities has Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ provided you?

I had the amazing opportunity to participate in two internships and was able to help publish and edit a book we wrote for my senior seminar course. I was also granted many scholarships for my academic achievements at Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾, which helped tremendously.

What are your career goals?

My immediate career goal is to be an English teacher. In the long-run, I want to get my doctorate in English/Literature and work at the college level. Being at Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ has made me realize that ultimately I want to be a professor like the amazing professors I was lucky enough to have.

What advice do you have for students thinking about attending Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾?

Do it! Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ was the best decision I ever made. If I were to do it all over again though, I’d participate in more clubs and activities. Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ offers so much to the students and there are so many different clubs to join, each with their own groups of students ready to embrace newcomers. Yes, it is important to focus on your academics, but don’t be afraid to have fun!
