麻豆传媒网站 Celebrates Black History Month with Flag Raising

The Unified Black Students Society and 麻豆传媒网站 raised the Pan-African flag Feb. 2 to celebrate Black History Month.

Galloway, N.J.&苍产蝉辫;鈥&苍产蝉辫;The raising of the Pan-African flag in Arts & Sciences Circle on Monday signaled the beginning of 麻豆传媒网站鈥檚 Black History Month observance.

鈥淭he flag raising is a moment to honor our history, our resilience and the contributions of black people past and present,鈥 said My鈥橝ir Henry, president of the  which sponsored the event.

鈥淚t took many years of Carter G. Woodson, the father of Black History Month, speaking up and speaking out to first establish Negro History Week in 1926,鈥 said Professor of Africana Studies Donnetrice Allison, noting this was the precursor to the United States officially recognizing Black History Month in 1976.

The university has a series of events scheduled throughout the month to celebrate the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities experienced by Black Americans.
