In this course, learn about the many ways women on the American home front supported the war effort. Discover the many challenges women faced in wartime society from growing Victory Gardens to working as air raid wardens, volunteering with the USO, dealing with rationing, and much more. 

Patty Chappine is an adjunct professor at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. Her recent book New Jersey Women during World War II: On the Home Front and Abroad was published by Lexington Books in 2024.

During WWII, women who joined the Navy as WAVES staffed duty locations across the country. These women broke barriers in areas like cryptology, aviation, engineering and computing, paving the way for fields that evolved into cybersecurity, information technology, and computer science. Learn about the many ways Navy women served during WWII.

This course is an overview of various topics in law enforcement and policing in the United States from a seasoned practitioner. The topics include the differences between law enforcement and policing, the structures at all levels, selection and training of officers, discretion, policing strategies, police positions and job functions, constitutional restraints on law enforcement, use of force, and special issues. We will be using real life examples, including some videos.

Professor Rick Mulvihill is a Tenured Instructor of Criminal Justice at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. He spent twenty-six years in local policing, including 13 years as chief. He was then appointed the Director of Public Safety for Atlantic County. Finally serving as a research director for the U.S. Department of Justice. He is a graduate of the New Jersey State Police Academy and the FBI National Academy. He holds both an B.A. and M.Sc .in Criminal Justice.
